Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on Thursday morning.

It happened at 9.36am on the A600, near to Rowney Warren, Chicksands, when a silver Volkswagen Passat and a black Vauxhall Astra were in collision.

The driver of the Passat, a 38-year-old man and his 39 year-old female passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the incident said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the man and woman’s families at this tragic time."

"Following a rapid assessment by our first paramedic at the scene, the man and woman together in a car were pronounced dead. Another man who was the sole occupant in the other car involved, received minor injuries. He was immobilised by paramedics and then taken to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage for further care."

The road was closed while the vehicles were recovered and a full collision investigation is underway though the carriageway has since re-opened.

A coroner’s inquest will be opened and adjourned in due course, after which the victims will be named.

PC Andy Carter, of the Collision Investigation Unit, is keen to speak with anyone who saw the collision or anyone who saw either car prior to the collision as they were travelling on the A600.

Anyone with information relating to this collision is urged to contact PC Carter at the Collision Investigation Unit on 01234 842439, or text your message on 07786 200011, or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
