Residents who live in the Lower Stondon and Henlow area are protesting against the site shortlisted for land opposite the RAF Henlow Camp, next to Derwent School.
It is one of a number of sites published by Central Bedfordshire Council last month for consulation.
Sarah Smith, who lives in Lower Stondon, set up Campaign Travellers – a mailing list, and within just a few days they had more than 800 signatures.
Mrs Smith said this showed the ‘strength of feeling’ in the village.
Letters of objection are to be sent out to residents. They state that the site (pictured) is unsuitable for many reasons including limited public transport and local schools in the area.
They also say that the noise from the Chiltern Air Support unit police helicopter which is based at the RAF airfield would be ‘considerabily worse’ in a caravan which would therefore affect the health of the residents.
Mrs Smith added: “As a resident of Stondon Parish, my four-yearold son started at the local lower school in Easter, so I have a keen interest in this matter as it is close to my heart.
“We will be presenting the actual petition at the Executive meeting to be held at Central Beds offices at Chicksands on Tuesday.
“There are still many residents of the village and surrounding areas who have no idea that this site is on the five proposed sites in the area, having initially been rejected back in December 2009.
“We have been put onto the list at the last minute due to the Clifton site falling through.” To sign the petition online visit www.gopetition.com/online/34 520.html
