An elderly couple who bought a plant from a car boot sale got more than they bargained for after the shrubbery turned out to be the ‘biggest cannabis plant’ police had seen.

Bedfordshire Police posted the picture of the plant on the social networking website Twitter on Friday - shortly after a drugs bust at the Bedford home.

The couple alerted officers after they were tipped-off their car boot purchase, growing in their back garden, could be the illegal drug. Officers attended the property before carrying out the unorthodox garden work.

Bedford’s Local Policing team later messaged on Twitter: 'Seized today. Elderly couple bought shrub at car boot sale, tended carefully-biggest cannabis plant we had seen!!' along with the picture (above).

Officers would only confirm the couple were from the Bedford area and that it is likely they will not face any charges.

Thanks for the sage words. But the day I take advice from a Sheffielder will be the day after I've gnawed my feet off through boredom and looking for something more idiotic to do.

At Rob Bane and brgirl You have both committed gross misuse of the English language. But hey this is a comments column on the internet not an essay for submission to you English professor at Cambridge. Get a life this about a cannabis bush and a nice healthy looking one at that. If you want to argue trade email and stop filling up here with your pretentious ****. I doubt if either of you have an O level between you.

I can't say I agree, DanD. brgirl's parting joke of repeating the commas + brackets thing is pretty funny, to me at least. And perhaps I was a little harsh in my initial criticism, given that she was only defending someone from pedants. Sorry for that.

Rob Bane, for the love of God grow up and get a life, your persistance in arguing the toss with people is very tiring!

I'd call that game set and match to the Bane.

It looks like the couple certainly looked after it well. Nurturing like that might get the people who sold it to them interested in employing them. Might be an idea if the police kept an eye on the couple !!

And let's see if you can resist the urge.....

Mr Bane, obviously you have some sort of overwhelming need to flex your intellectual muscles, (you snob), and argue that you are RIGHT, because let's face it, this, when one makes and analysis of your texts, is what it's really all about. So good luck to you.
