Generosity sparks life into the town Christmas forgot

There will now be Christmas lights in a town previously destined for darkness thanks to a local electrician.

Earlier this month we reported that Flitwick would not be having any festive lights this year because of health and safety regulations and problems with vandalism.

Flitwick Town Council has since received a number of complaints from residents unhappy with the decision but a sparky has now come to the rescue.

Andrew Woolgar of DA Woolgar, based in the town, has now offered his services to erect the lights, much to the delight of residents and members of the council.

A spokesman for the council said: “It is hoped that if everything went to plan the lights could be switched on at 5pm on December 6 however there will be no official ceremony this year.

“Members also feel that due to the interest shown by residents in having Christmas Lights a plan should be drawn up for future provision.

“They were pleased with the response from businesses in supporting this emergency situation this year and giving indications of support for the future. Fundraising events may be part of the solution.”

Funding for this year’s lights has been provided by the council and also from Country Properties Sales and Lettings in the town.

Flitwick Motors has also said it is happy to continue giving a power supply for the lighting display in the High Street.
