Girl meets boy: Lauren and Jason Dalzell

As chat-up lines go, the one that Lauren French came out with has got to be up there with the strangest. Around ten years ago, Lauren was working in the dentist's surgery that Jason visited for check-ups.

"I suppose I did fancy him a bit then, yes!" the new Mrs. Dalzell smiles. "Jason works as a builder, and would come in, in all his work gear, and I thought he was cute."

Fast forward five years: Lauren had left the practice but on a night out in Stony Stratford, they bumped into each other in a pub. "I think I said something like, 'I know your dental records!', we got chatting, and that was it!"

The two moved in together, got a Staffordshire bull terrier called Blue and, three years later, Jason proposed. They were down in London for the weekend for Jason’s birthday. They stayed in a hotel on Westminster Bridge Road and the room looked over many of the capital's most famous landmarks. They went out for dinner and drank champagne - and then Lauren fell asleep. "Jason woke me up, telling me that it was coming up to midnight, and that we should look out the window to see Big Ben strike. After the bongs, Jason asked me to look in the safety deposit box to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything. And in there, there was a ring!" So, with a three diamond, white gold band on her finger, the two were engaged.

Lauren and Jason decided to tie the knot at the Plum Park Hotel in Potterspury, Northamptonshire. The venue is a privately owned boutique hotel, with a permanent marquee in the grounds.

"All the music on the day was played live," explains Lauren. "A friend played the piano while I was walking down the aisle, there was a saxophone playing whilst we signed the register and then the Bradwell Silver Band did an hour's set to entertain guests during the day. They were fantastic." In the evening, a five piece band played a variety of songs from different genres, which kept all generations happy and dancing.

Lauren wore a Maggie Soterro gown, which she bought from Ivory Wardrobe in Woburn Sands. It was strapless, with an embellished bodice and full skirt. The colour scheme of the day was teal, ivory and gold, so the bridesmaids' dresses - bought from BHS - in a beautiful turquoise-like blue were a great match. Jason and his best man also co-ordinated; their handmade, Saville Row suits were lined in a similar colour.

Jason is very into motorbikes and so it was decided that the wedding was to have a Moto GP theme. "All the tables were named after race tracks and I handmade models of motorbikes as centrepieces" Lauren says.

On the morning of the wedding, Lauren had her hair styled by Capelli in Stoney Stratford but she had been given a lesson at the MAC counter in Debenhams so she actually did her bridal make-up herself. "It’s good because I have all the products now so I’ll know just what to do when I go to events in the future."

Lauren and her father were picked up by a horse and carriage and taken to the Plum Park Hotel. The carriage then took the new Mr and Mrs Dalzell for a fifteen minute ride after the ceremony. The other members of the wedding party also arrived in style. "The best man and ushers arrived in a white Lamborghini Gallardo and the bridal party came in a 1930s Rolls Royce."

At the reception guests enjoyed a three course sit down meal. There was a choice of melon or smoked ham and pea soup for the starter. "It was delicious!" Lauren enthuses. This was followed by beef, chicken or salmon with seasonal vegetables, and for dessert there was a selection of mini puddings to choose from.

"The day went without a hitch" Lauren smiles. "It didn’t rain, which was very lucky, especially for this year! The time just flew, and I wish we could do it all over again. It really was the happiest day of my life. I keep watching the video!"

All ages were catered for, with bubble machines outside for the children and, when the time came to go home, everyone left worn out from dancing.

Lauren and Jason spent their honeymoon driving through France to Spain with Jason’s motorbike. "It’s been something he’s wanted to do for years; we had an amazing time!"
