Teachers Wanted for Free School

Bedford Free School is now searching for the first 20 staff members to work at the new site when its gates open in September this year.

The new site on Cauldwell Street in Bedford will offer a range of subjects to pupils with particular focus on quality IT education. Enrichment subjects will also be on offer to help students develop their individual talents.

Principle Designate Mark Lehain said: “A new year means a new opportunity for those teachers who want to be involved in an exciting educational opportunity where the emphasis in on the success of the teacher – student team.

“We want teachers to be allowed to be teachers and support staff to be allowed to bring their expertise to bear on the running of the school.”

Bedford Free School will open for 11-16 year olds in September.

More than 5,000 pupils across the county have been described as "persistent absentees" by the Department for Education. The 5,305 students, from both primary and secondary schools, missed lessons for 23 days or more last year.
