DAN Powell is getting a lot of headlines after his piece of sportsmanship against Oldham on Saturday.
Despite being in an excellent position up the field he kicked the ball out of play when Oldham’s Paul Black went down injured.
My first reaction was ‘what is he doing?!’ as in my day I don’t think anybody would have done that.
You didn’t stop when a player got injured at all, you just carried on and took advantage.
But give the lad credit as he genuinely felt that it was a bad injury and he took it on himself to kick the ball out.
We can’t take any credit for that, all the credit has to go to DanPowell. He’s given Dons a good name by being so sporting.
LeeClark and Martin Allen have lost their jobs at Huddersfield and Notts County – football is harsh as managers are getting sacked even when they are in a great position in the league.
I’ve spoken to both as they are both really good guys. Martin’s done a good job at County and Lee’s record is there for everyone to see. I think they’ll both get jobs fairly quickly.
The Oldham win was our first in seven games but that doesn’t tell the true story.
In that period we’ve played QPR twice, where the lads were outstanding, and claimed two good points against Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield who are both in the top four.
We lost to Stevenage – who proved by drawing 0-0 with Tottenham in the FA Cup what a good side they are – but we wouldn’t have been beaten if we hadn’t gone down to ten men.
Against Charlton on Tuesday I thought the lads were almost heroic.
Gary MacKenzie’s sending off cost us the game but for the rest of it we made them look like an average team – and they’re top of the league.
Sometimes if he we don’t win it doesn’t come through how well we have played.
It was suggested that Charlton took their foot of the gas but they didn’t, they never got a kick as we didn’t give them a chance.
I think we’re playing some of the best football in the country in bad conditions with limited players – we deserve to have supporters in the ground because the football can be a joy to watch.
