Boss delighted with two wins on the spin

mknews football sport mk dons qpr loftus road. Karl Robinson at Loftus Road last nightKarl Robinson was a happy man after Dons picked up three points against Bury last night – in what he described as a 'weird game'.

Former Don David Amoo gave the Shakers an early lead but a deadly double from Dean Bowditch – the second from the penalty spot – saw Dons lead at half-time.

Bury had also been reduced to ten man after Giles Coke was sent off for picking up a second yellow card, but Dons couldn't add to their tally despite dominating the second half.

A number of promising opportunities went to waste as Bury defended resolutely, and the narrow advantage was highlighted when the Shakers nearly nicked an unlikely point at the death.

David Martin had been a spectator for much of the 90 minutes but he was called into action to deny an advanced Mark Hughes late on.

It wasn't as comfortable as it perhaps should have been but the three points were what mattered to Robinson.

He said: "It was a weird game as they made two banks of four and made it very difficult. It was a very professional performance, although I am fuming over their chance at the end.

"I am disappointed with the chances that we missed, we dilly-dallied a little bit on the edge of the box when we needed to be ruthless but you have to say it's two home games on the spin and six points.

"John Gorman and I were talking before and it's difficult to win two home games regardless of who you are and who you are playing, it's just pleasing to get over the line and six points in two games at home proves this place is still a fortress.

"It was one of those second halves where if we had taken one of those chances it would have ended up being four or five, but it just didn't seem to go in."

Dons look set to lose Stephen Gleeson for a fortnight after he was injured during the first half.

But the Irishman had already picked up his tenth booking of the season before being replaced at half-time, so would have been due for a suspension anyway.
