Brabin eyes sequel to silence of the Lambs

Tamworth are the visitors to Luton this weekend after an enforced break for both on Saturday - and Gary Brabin is keen for his side to reproduce the performance that did for The Lambs last year.

The Hatters beat Marcus Law’s side 3-1 on the road before Christmas – a result that was matched by an impressive display, which Brabin admitted, “does help with confidence.”

Saturday’s postponement at Forest Green Rovers was the second successive weekend Town saw a game fall by the wayside due to a frozen pitch, while it was the same story for Tamworth’s home clash with Kidderminster.

However, it has given Brabin a week to bask in a pleasing performance that saw his men end Harriers’ interests in the FA Trophy.

He hopes that it was the start of a run of impressive showings, though he concedes that three points on Saturday are still the most important prize, however well Town play.

He said: “I keep using Barcelona [as an example] because, for me, they’re the best football team I’ve seen in my lifetime. When we are watching it on the television, it looks easy. It’s not. You have to work hard.

“We want to play a certain type of football. We’ve got good players, young players who hopefully have a big future at this club and certainly in football.

“We want them playing in the right way but it is also important that we are winning matches. We’ve got a goal at the end of it and that is to achieve promotion.

“We went into games like [last] Tuesday where we performed the way we wanted to, played the way we want to play and we won the game, so we are delighted with that.

"That’s something that we need to keep doing.”

Tamworth have won only once in their eight games since a Danny Crow double and a James Dance goal sunk them. Luton have not lost in 12 league matches and the manager knows it is imperative his side make form count.

“We want to win games,” said Brabin, adding: “We come away from some that we’ve won where we are disappointed with the performance and know that it hasn’t been ideal.

"We want to learn from that, beat teams and put on good performances. That is always embedded in people’s head, more than when you beat teams.

“When we beat Tamworth, we did it deservedly so. That’s gone now and we’ve just got to take all the confidence we can from that victory.”

The 11-day break between the 2-1 FA Trophy third round win at Aggborough and Saturday’s Blue Square Bet Premier clash will give the likes of Keith Keane extra time to recover from his hamstring injury, while Crow, Aaron O’Connor and Craig McAllister all returned to training last week.
