Former West Ham United star Calum Davenport featured for local side Wootton Blue Cross last Saturday in an effort to return to the game after being stabbed in the legs.

He suffered the career and life threatening injuries in August 2009 in an attack in Kempston, where he lost 50 per cent of his blood and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Davenport, 27, left the Hammers in March following the mutual termination of his contract and is looking to make a return to football, with a number of Championship clubs allegedly interested.
He had been training with Leeds United but the Yorkshire club haven't offered him a deal.

A spokesperson for Wootton Blue Cross said: “With a number of our players on holiday and Calum looking to return to fitness this is ideal for both parties.”
