The Barbarians and Bedford line up for their match in 2008
Bedford Blues have named a strong squad for the Mobbs Memorial Match against the Barbarians at Goldington Road tomorrow night (Tuesday at 7.45pm).

The Championship club have named 12 players who were involved in the British  Irish Cup victory over Aberavon on Saturday in their matchday squad of 22.

Among them is winger Duncan Taylor who scored a hat-trick of tries against Aberavon though he will play at full-back in the Mobbs Match.

Highly-rated scrum-half Darryl Veenendaal, who has helped East Midlands reach the Midlands final of this season's National Under-20 Championship is among the replacements.

Bedford will be captained by former Northampton Saints number eight Ben Lewitt for their third meeting with the Barbarians in this fixture having replaced East Midlands as the Barbarians' opponents for the Mobbs Memorial Match in 2008.

This year's Mobbs Memorial Match will be the 83rd time the fixture has been played since it was inaugurated in 1921 to honour the memory of Lt-Col Edgar Mobbs, the former England, East Midlands, Northampton, Olney and Bedford Modern School winger, who was killed leading an assault on an enemy machine gun post at Passchendale in July 1917.

Tuesday's game co-incides with the centenary of the first time Mobbs captained England. On March 3, 1910 he took over the captaincy from Adrian Stoop and led England to an 11-3 victory against France at the Parc des Princes. It was Mobbs' seventh and final international appearance.

The Mobbs Memorial Match will be preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony in memory of Lt-Col Edgar Mobbs DSO at the Bedford War Memorial.

All proceeds from the match will go towards supporting youth rugby in East Midlands.

Tickets for the Mobbs Memorial Match - £10 with Under-16s free - can be ordered from: www.bedfordrugby.co.uk or 0871 871 1886.
