ST ALBANS CITY 1 BEDFORD TOWN 2
Evo-Stik Premier
After rejecting the chance to re-join St Albans earlier this season, Drew Roberts returned to his old ground to net a late winner for in-form Bedford Town.
Roberts’ 80th minute strike secured Bedford their fourth win in five games and gave further justification to any teams scouting the free-scoring striker.
St Albans will certainly not be able to take him back, as under league rules they are not allowed to bid for him until next season after having one offer rebuffed by the 26-year-old.
Bedford went ahead in the first half when midfielder Josh Beech skilfully controlled Ollie Thorne’s through-ball and converted the chance with style.
St Albans deserved to be level after a considerable period of pressure but Eagles keeper Ian Brown was brilliant.
A 70th minute goal did restore parity but Bedford continued attacking and Roberts’ tap-in secured three points.
