Bedford Town defender Ollie Thorne cut a frustrated figure after his side lost to local rivals Arlesey Town.
A below-par Eagles side were easily outclassed by their East Bedfordshire counterparts, admittedly, though, their cause wasn’t helped by a series of decisions that went against them.
“I’m disappointed because I didn’t think we played too badly today,” the former Kidderminster Harriers man explained. “But we didn’t do the things we did in the last four games, which is getting down the sides and competing. It was a bad day at the office and we’ll put things right.”
Thorne added: “If the referee has a bad game, there’s nothing you can do, but we had two stonewall penalties and a goal disallowed, so that tells you we didn’t play too badly.
“We just didn’t get the rub of the green – that’s all.”
Ady Hall’s men started brightly in the opening five minutes, but Josh Beech’s tap-in from close range was ruled out for a foul on Arlesey keeper Nick Bussey, and a trip on the Town man in the area failed to result in a spot kick.
Jordan Patrick scored the winner on eight minutes, when he slotted home Max York’s misplaced pass.
Bedford’s claims for a handball in the box after half time were also waived away by the referee.
But this couldn’t mask the visitors’ poor display, which brought to an end a promising run of four straight league wins.
