As well as throwing himself full steam into the latest Championship campaign, Bedford Blues stalwart Sacha Harding is battling hard to pull off an impressive double away from the rugby pitch this season.
The 27-year-old will be honoured with a testimonial after spending decade with the Goldington Road Club, but now he is aiming to be named the UK’s ‘Most Manliest Man’.
Last month, shaving brand, the Bluebeards Revenge, released pictures of the World’s Most Masculine Man – a combination of George Clooney’s hair, Gerrard Butler’s eyes, Brad Pitt’s nose, Jason Statham’s jaw line and Daniel Craig’s body – and launched the manliest of manhunts, to find the British man who looked most like this photo fit, to become the new Face Of its brand.
Hundreds of men applied but, after much deliberation, eight ruggedly handsome suitors were short listed by shaving brand company The Bluebeards Revenge, including the Blues flanker who is now battling it out for the title of Britain’s Most Masculine Man, and should he win will become a media sensation, winning a modelling contract to be the face of the luxury shaving cream.
After being put forward by a proud female friend, Harding has already been involved in a finalist photo shoot and is now trying to woo as many people as possible in the hope of bringing more honours to Bedford Blues Rugby Club.
Speaking about the year competition and the season ahead, Harding said: “I’ve been playing rugby for the Blues for a decade now, but driving along to take part in a photoshoot was far more nerve-wracking than having a 22 stone prop charging head first at you.
“The other guys taking part in the competition are a great laugh and we all got on really well, but I’m hoping that rugby fans will get behind me and hopefully I can bring the title to Goldington Road on what is a very exciting year for me.
“When I started my rugby career at Hitchin Boys School I didn’t really know where it was going to take me. I’ve had my fair share of knocks and injuries, but it has been a great experience playing for Bedford and I hope that I repay them on the field.”
Harding is one of the youngest players to have a testimonial honour bestowed on him and during his time at the club he has been a true ambassador for the both on and off the pitch.
His performances on the field have established him as a true fans' favourite, while he has also been the driving force behind the Blues' participation in the annual Movember event which raised almost £4,000 for the charity last year.
To mark Harding's ten year stint with the Blues a club dinner will be held on October 22, with Scott Quinnell attending as guest speaker. There will also be a golf day in March and the season will conclude with an invitational Midnight Sevens event as Harding rounds off his tenth year at Goldington Road.
