James Pritchard is set to miss at least the remainder of the Championship regular season for the Bedford Blues after undergoing surgery on a broken arm sustained in Saturday's 18-6 defeat at home to Bristol.

The Blues skipper managed to complete the full 80 minutes of the match and afterwards there were no obvious signs he had suffered any sort of injury.

However, he was taken to hospital following the match and Pritchard later confirmed via his Twitter account what happened and how he managed to sustain the break.

"Clean break in the forearm doing something I shouldn't be doing - hitting rucks!! When will I learn," was the update the Canada international full back shared, before later confirming he was undergoing surgery on Sunday.

Pritchard is hopeful of returning in time for the Championship semi-finals, but looks set to miss the five remaining league matches and the British & Irish Cup quarter final at home to Llanelli on Saturday, April 6.

The injury is the third serious one to hit Blues this season. Sacha Harding is recovering from a dislocated ankle and Henry Staff is working his way back from a ruptured bicep.
