Bedford Blues, the Investabroad Properties National Colts Cup holders, will begin their defence of the title with a trip across the county to Ampthill in this season’s first round.
Bedford won the competition for the third time in four seasons when they beat Somerset club Hornets in last May’s final at Northampton Saints’ Franklin’s Gardens ground.They have been included in the first round draw with ties due to be played on or before September 19.
Moseley, who won the inaugural competition in 1997/98, are also in the first round and will host Wolverhampton.
The National Colts Cup was introduced as part of the East Midlands RU’s Centenary celebrations and has continued to grow in strength and popularity.
The National Colts Plate for sides beaten in rounds one to three of the Cup was introduced in 1999/2000.
Both competitions are organised by the East Midlands RU.
Investabroad Properties National Colts Cup, first round draw (Midlands): Peterborough v Derby, Old Northamptonians v Dunstablians, Stockwood Park v Syston, Long Buckby v Bedford Athletic, Ampthill v Bedford Blues, Scunthorpe v Towcestrians, Luton v Olney, Bletchley v Coalville, Oadby Wyggestonians v Northampton BBOB, Leighton Buzzard v Lutterworth, Broadstreet v Stourbridge, Moseley v Wolverhampton, Rugby Lions v Worcester Wanderers, Dudley Kingswinford v Lichfield.
Ties to be played on or before September 19.
