Bedford Blues winger Ollie Dodge believes the team’s emphatic win over Plymouth Albion is down to the mentality instilled into the team by Mike Rayer and his coaches.
Dodge, who scored three tries in Bedford’s 51-3 win over the Devon team said: “Credit really needs to go to the coaches though. During the weeks of hard work in pre-season they’ve tried to install a mentality where everyone knows what they are doing and that really showed today.”Dodge also admitted that the way that they played had shocked him and his teamates, although they were understandably pleased with the way they performed.
“I think it was the perfect start” said the winger. “We wanted to get out there and play as well as we could, and in all honesty I think we were surprised as to how well we played.”
It was the first time that Dodge had scored three tries in one match before, but tries capped off an all-round performance both in attack and defence. However the tries were certainly the highlight of the afternoon for the former Leicester winger.
Dodge said: “I’ve scored a couple in a few games but never three before, although I have come close. It’s just great to come off the pitch knowing the hard work has paid off.”
