A decision on whether to allow a incinerator to be built has been delayed after the go-ahead was given to another plant.
Last week we revealed that the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) had given Covanta permission to build a controversial giant energy from waste plant in Rookery South Pit near Stewartby.
Following the ruling the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has written to parties interested in the application for an incinerator at the Twinwoods Business Park, Thurleigh Road, Milton Ernest.
The application for the 160,000 tonnes capacity plant was rejected by Bedford Borough Council in March.
Biogen Power Ltd, behind the project, appealed the decision and the hearing was held in May.
A judgement was due to be made by last Thursday but a letter was sent out stating that in light of the decision by the IPC the Secretary of State was extending the timescale.
Members of the public can submit their comments by November 16 on any implications the Covanta decision has on the Twinwoods proposal.
Sharnbrook Councillor Doug McMurdo welcomed the news and said: “We are in danger of having an over supply of incinerators.
“The big issue that we have in Thurleigh is nothing more than it’s in the wrong location.
“In light of the IPC’s decision there’s clearly a lack of evidence that there’s a requirement for further incineration.” A ruling is due to be made in January.
