Rail passengers faced travel misery on Monday night after signal failure hit London in the height of rush hour.
People travelling to and from Bedfordshire were hit with delays of up to 90 minutes on Thameslink services.
Trains running between Farringdon Station and Kentish Town were cancelled after the fault at around 5pm.
Network Rail, which is responsible for track and signalling, finally repaired the fault after five hours at Farringdon.
At Bedford coaches were put on for affected passengers.
On Tuesday Thameslink issued an apology for their passengers and offered them the chance to claim compensation over the delays.
A Thameslink statement said: “We endeavoured to run as many trains as possible to prevent overcrowding at stations.
“However, for many people it was a difficult journey home for which we would like to sincerely apologise. You may be able to claim compensation under our Delay Repay scheme.”
