Six American teenagers are appearing in court over the next two months following the suicide of Bedford-born schoolgirl Phoebe Prince.

Fifteen-year-old Phoebe, who lived in the town when she was younger, was found hanging in the stairwell of her Massachusetts family home on January 14 this year.

The teenager, who was found by her 12-year-old sister after school, is believed to have taken her own life after an ongoing tirade of bullying both on internet social network sites and at South Hadley High School.

Six teenagers, dubbed the South Hadley 6, have pleaded not guilty to various charges following Phoebe’s death.

On September 14 Sean Mulveyhill, 17, and Kayla Narey, 17, once boyfriend and girlfriend, appeared at Hampshire County Superior Court for a pre-trial hearing, charged with criminal harassment, violation of civil rights with bodily harm and disturbing a school assembly.

Mulveyhill is also being charged with statutory rape, for allegedly sleeping with Phoebe.

Sharon Velazquez, 16, Flannery Mullins, 16, and Ashley Longe, 16, had their pre-trial hearings last Thursday at Franklin/Hampshire Juvenile Court.

All three have been charged with violation of civil rights resulting in bodily injury. Mullins and Velazquez are also being charged with stalking.

Austin Renaud, 18, has a hearing scheduled for October 4 and is also being charged with statutory rape.

Phoebe was born in Bedford in November 1994, and was the daughter of Jeremy Prince and Anne O’Brien. She moved to Ireland when she was two and emigrated to the US in the autumn of 2009 with her American mother and three sisters.

Now a tribute page on Facebook called ‘RIP Phoebe Prince. You will be missed – Those girls are horrible people’ has 26,498 members.
