Riders have had their miniature motorbikes taken off them after their drivers were found to be riding them anti-socially.

PC Jamie Quinney said: “Mini Moto’s are great fun for kids and adults, although many people are unaware of the laws surrounding them.

“The bikes can only be ridden on the road if they are fully registered, taxed, insured and the rider is wearing a helmet.

"Off-road, the bikes can only be used on private land with the landowner's permission.

"The seizure of a vehicle is often just the beginning. Riders of these bikes frequently face prosecution in the courts for traffic offences”

PC Steve Thompson said: “Mini motos are noisy and their illegal use is blighting many local residents across Kempston, seized mini-motos will be crushed. We hope that these confiscations will send a clear message to riders throughout Kempston.”

Cllr Carl Meader said: “I’m pleased that the police are responding to local people’s concerns raised at Kempston Community Safety forum and the local SNT is cracking down on this anti-social behaviour.”

To report illegal use of the bikes, call 01234 841212 , text 07786 200011 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
