The chairwoman of the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Trust has stood down after more than ten years of service.
Jane Wolfson announced her resignation from the organisation – which has been fighting to create a 26km waterway link between Bedford and Milton Keynes for a decade – at its annual general meeting on Tuesday.
Mrs Wolfson, who is co-founder and director of LMD Learning Solutions Ltd, in Milton Keynes, has been closely involved in the project for a decade, was chairwoman for the past four years and will now become a vice president of the trust.
She explained she is bowing out owing to the combination of challenging work and new family responsibilities.
Graham Mabbutt, a former Milton Keynes councillor and a retired record and music industry executive, has taken over Mrs Wolfson’s role on the board of directors.
He said: “I have been involved with the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway project since 2002, and feel highly honoured that the trust’s board of directors has asked me to succeed Jane Wolfson as chairman of the trust.
I will be a firm hand on the tiller taking the project forward.” Three new directors were also elected to the board.
These were Patrick Hall, former Member of Parliament for Bedford and Kempston, John Best, former chief executive of Milton Keynes Council, and Drew Marchant, a business project manager with over 30 years’ track record in a range of industries.
