MP for Mid-Bedfordshire Nadine Dorries has spoken out against Nick Clegg after he announced the Lib Dems would no longer be supporting changes to parliamentary boundaries.
Ms Dorries hit out at the deputy prime minister on Monday following his decision to withdraw support for proposed constituency boundary changes as the Conservatives had abandoned plans for reforms to the House of Lords.
The Tory MP has criticised Clegg's announcement despite the fact that her seat is safer if the changes don't go ahead as a recent review found the Mid-Beds seat eliminated.
She said: “It just shows how shallow the Lib Dems are. If they are dropping this because they didn’t get Lords reform then it epitomises who they are and what they are all about – which is self.
"Nick Clegg stood up in Parliament and said he supported the changes but now this is about them and not the country. He should be doing what is in the national interest, not his self-interest.”
Clegg said that when it comes to a vote he would be instructing his MPs to oppose boundary changes for the 2015 election.
