Museum and library gains national standard

The John Bunyan Museum in Bedford has been officially "Accredited" by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

The world famous John Bunyan Museum & Library, a gem in the heart of Bedford, volunteer led and run, has achieved national recognition of the high standards it has set and maintained since its opening 12 years ago.

The MLA's Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. John Bunyan Museum's award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its collection and the services it provides its visitors.

Rosemary Brind (Head of Operations and Development, Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and Bedford Museum) the curatorial advisor to the John Bunyan Museum commented "Congratulations are due to all involved whose hard work has contributed to this award. It is a great achievement for this museum."

Andrew Motion, Chair of MLA, said: " Being awarded Accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that the John Bunyan Museum & Library provides and acknowledges the hard work of the volunteer staff."
