Man tied up and robbed of gold coins

Bedfordshire PoliceBedfordshire Police are seeking witnesses after a man in his 70s was attacked, tied up and robbed in his home in Church Lane, Bedford early this morning.

At around 1.30am in the early hours of this morning (July 28) three white men entered the man’s home, tied him up and ransacked his property demanding his valuables. They stole a quantity of cash, Gold Sovereigns, Krugerands and pre-decimal coins from his safe leaving him shaken by the incident.

Detective Constable Barry Kibble said: “This is a very serious robbery which could have left the victim seriously hurt. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen these three men in the Church Road area last night before or after the burglary took place at around 1.30am.  

“We would also like to hear from anyone who might have information about these Gold Krugerands and pre-decimal coins or might be approached by someone offering them for sale. Anonymous calls can be made to the Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111."
