Man killed at Biggleswade rail station

A man died after being hit by a high speed train this morning (Wednesday February 8) close to Biggleswade rail station.

Police were called to the station just after 9.30am following reports of a man being struck by a train, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed.

Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The train involved was the 07.00 East Coast service from Hull to London Kings Cross which was not due to stop at Biggleswade and was travelling on the higher speed centre rail lines near the station.

None of the 127 train passengers were hurt but the driver taken off the service and was being cared for, said the train company.

Biggleswade station was closed for a short while as the body was recovered.

Lines were handed back to Network Rail at 10.25am and were fully opened at 10.55am.

Train services are still disrupted but are expected to be back to normal by early afternoon.

A BTP spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Officers are currently working to establish the man’s identity and inform his next of kin.”
