A 47-year-old Honda driver died following a collision at Millbrook Proving Ground on Tuesday.
The incident occurred just after 11.30am at the test track near Marston Moretaine involving one vehicle carrying the driver and four passengers.
Bedfordshire Police say the driver – named locally as David Allan – was pronounced dead at the scene. The passengers, three men and one woman from Swindon, who all worked for Honda, were taken to Bedford Hospital with various injuries, which were not thought to be life-threatening.
Collision Investigation Officers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit have carried out a full forensic examination of the scene and were being assisted by the Health and Safety Executive. The East of England Ambulance Service and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended.
The family of the deceased, who is also from Swindon, were informed on Tuesday evening and more details will be released once an inquest is opened.
A spokesman for Honda said: “At around 11.30 on Tuesday morning, while undertaking routine vehicle testing at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, five Honda associates were involved in a serious incident.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the associates at this time.”
