Kids petition for indoor skate park

Plans are afoot for an indoor skate facility after 400 youngsters signed an online petition.

Skate shop Enemite in Bromham Road, Bedford, started the petition earlier this year calling for a specialist indoor park for BMX riders, in-line skaters and skateboarders similar to one in Corby.

At the moment there are outdoor parks for skaters but these are only in limited use depending on weather and time of year.

Now the shop has teamed up with experienced project co-ordinator and Central Bedfordshire councillor Ken Lynch to arrange a public meeting on Thursday to discuss how feasible the idea would be.

Cllr Lynch said: “We need to look at the costs for ramps, insurance, rents and rates as well as a location for the park.

Hopefully the council will be on board and we could see this becoming a reality for the young people of Bedfordshire.”

The meeting takes place at the Jubilation Centre in Jubilee Park, Bedford, from 1pm until 2.30pm.
