A popular headteacher is to retire after more than 20 years as a chief of schools in Bedford.
Rob Harris, 60, says he is looking forward to doing his garden and some DIY after first arriving in Bedfordshire in 1974.
Today (July 22), Mr Harris, who is the head of Stephenson Lower School in Canvin Way, Bedford, will finally hang up his mortar board and cane.
The school chief, described as ‘caring’ ‘funny’ and ‘an ideal role model’ by his staff said: “I’m looking forward to retirement now and not having to deal with the worries that come with being a headteacher.
“I have an allotment that need tending too so that will be my priority now.
“I’ve seen a lot of changes in the 25 years I’ve been a head’ but the best thing in that time was getting to know thousands of children and their parents and then bumping into town and seeing them with their children.
“I will miss it all.”
