Flitwick councillors elected unopposed

James Cunliffe
Two nominees for Flitwick councillor vacancies are to be elected unopposed because nobody else has come forward.

In January, councillors Marina Torselli and Gary Watkins resigned from the West Ward positions and so Flitwick Town Council announced the vacancies.

Only two candidates came forward for the council positions and so will be elected unopposed on April 3.

The two candidates are: Patrick Joseph Feerick of the Avenue, Flitwick, and Keith Quantrill of Dunstable Road, Flitwick.

Mr Feerick is a member of the Flitwick at the Crossroads Residents Action Group which campaigned against the new leisure centre being built on Millenium Park in Flitwick.

In September last year Bedfordshire on Sunday reported that Liberal Democrat councillor for Flitwick East, John Watton, died suddenly at his home.

Mid Bedfordshire District Council has announced that arrangements are being made for a by-election to be held on Thursday, May 1.
