A microbiologist fell to his death at a science park days after he was made redundant, a coroner has recorded.
Dr Clive De-Warrenne Blackburn, 48, of Felmersham was found by police officers hours after he was reported missing by family on November 13 last year. He was discovered in the grounds of his former employers Unilever R&D at Colworth Science Park.
It was heard at Bedford Coroner’s Court on Tuesday that Dr Blackburn had a history of depression and anxiety dating back to 1985. He had recently married prior to his death but details read out in court from his GP Dr Jonathan Wali said he suffered a relapse upon learning of his redundancy from the research and development centre.
Coroner David Morris told the court Dr Blackburn arrived at Unilever R&D the day after he left his post. He requested a swipecard from security claiming he wanted to collect the rest of his property. Police were alerted when security couldn't find the scientist and officers found his body on grass at the foot of the building.
Mr Morris recorded a narrative verdict that Dr Blackburn died from a fall from a height at the premises his worked.
