Blaze-battlers surprised by cannabis plant find

Fire crews were called to reports of a house fire in Harrold only to discover that the residents had been running a small-scale cannabis operation inside.

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service, along with Bedfordshire Police, attended reports of a house fire at 2.18am in a first floor bedroom in Dove Lane, Harrold on May 17 where they were surprised to spot several cannabis plants growing inside the property as they sought to tackle the blaze.

One person was given a police caution and the other, Luke Clarke, 21, of Dove Lane, was charged with drug offences and will appear at Bedford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The fire was declared under control shortly after 3am.
