Cellist Bartholomew LaFollette is to star alongside the Bedfordshire Symphony Orchestra when they perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto on Saturday.

Mr LaFollette, 25, plays for the international scene and his past venues include London’s Wigmore Hall, Dublin’s National Concert Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
His playing has been described as ‘spellbinding’ so it is certainly worth coming to hear him at his first performance in Bedford.
The cello concerto is a beautiful work from the same composer as the instantly recognisable Nimrod and the other Enigma Variations. It is a cornerstone of the cello repertoire.
The concert will open with the overture from Wagner’s last opera, Oberon. As it begins you will hear Oberon’s horn summoning the fairies amidst the sound of fairy music. It was written 1826 – the final year of Wagner’s life.
Brahms’ Fourth Symphony will be played after the interval. This work was first performed using just two pianos but is now best known in its orchestral form.
The three musical masterpieces are to be conducted by Michael Rose on Saturday, November 28 at 8pm, in the Bedford Corn Exchange.
Tickets cost £13 or £10 and concessions are available. They can be purchased from the Central Box Office in Harpur Street (01234 269519).
