MATTHEW PARIS LECTURE

Benedictine monk Matthew Paris (C.1200-1259 AD) wrote about and illustrated the siege of Bedford Castle along with commentaries on life in Britain and beyond in the early part of the 13th century.
Christina Thomas MA, who researched the original manuscripts, now in Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Trinity College, Dublin, will talk about the incredible life of a man of whom many in Bedfordshire have not heard.
He also helped set up the 0exhibition translating Paris’ manuscripts and printing his illustrations which was set up in St Albans Abbey in 2009 to mark the 700th Anniversary of Paris’ death. If you missed it, it’s coming to north Bedfordshire to the church in Colmworth during the first two weeks of July.

The free exhibition will be open by arrangement during the week for schools and history societies etc and open to the public on July 2-3 and 9-10 from 2pm to 5pm.
