Future Shorts Festival
The Pad, Lurke Street, Bedford Saturday, January 28 at 8pm £5 per person
THE first ever global pop-up festival, showcasing short films from around the world, is coming to Bedford later this month.
From the creators of Secret Cinema, the event currently takes place in more than 50 cities and 17 countries, comprising a worldwide audience of a half-million people, on and offline.
From London to Moscow, and Melbourne to Jakarta, the screenings take place across a huge network of music halls, cinemas, theatres, galleries, clubs and warehouses, providing an alternative to the traditional film festival model and this January it comes here as part of the Bedford Creative Arts social.
The programme includes the Oscar-winner ‘God of Love’, BAFTA-winning ‘The Eagleman Stag’ and Sundance-winner ‘Deeper Than Yesterday.’ Luke Matheny, who wrote, directed and starred in ‘God of Love,’ won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short in 2011.
At last year’s Oscars, he was hailed as delivering one of the best acceptance speeches of the evening.
In stark contrast, The Eagleman Stag is a unique nine-minute stop-motion animated film that depicts a man’s haunting obsession with the passage of time and his unorthodox relationship with a beetle.
Deeper Than Yesterday, filmed on an old decommissioned military submarine with 35mm cameras, tells the story of a Russian crew who suffer a savage form of cabin fever.
Tickets are available from Luscious Juice bar in Lime Street, Bedford or can be reserved by contacting garethb@bedfordcreativearts.org.uk
