One minute Faryl Smith was an ordinary schoolgirl with a talent for singing.

The next she was being told in front of a national television audience – “You are literally one in a million”.

And now the 15-year-old Britain’s Got Talent star (pictured right) is hitting the
stage at Bedford’s Proms in The Park.

But what has the teenage singing sensation from Kettering been doing since
hitting our TV screens three years ago – apart from two albums, of course.
Having just broken up from school – she does her GCSEs next year – Faryl’s
summer is pretty packed.

She said: “I’ve just been really busy with summer concerts. I’m singing
every weekend.

“I do like singing but obviously I like time with my mates. But I sometimes
take them with me.

“I started singing when I was about eight. I entered a big international competition when I was 10. I was the youngest there and I won. And after
that it was Britain’s Got Talent. It’s been a whirlwind but it’s been fun.

“When I get there, I’m still very much thinking what am I doing? And I still
get very star struck.”

And with meeting people like Lady Gaga, Michael Buble and The Queen,
who can blame her.

Reaching the top five in the commercial album chart, Faryl became the
fastest-selling classical debut album in chart history.

Faryl also sang at the 2009 FA Cup Final in front of more than 400 million television viewers worldwide.

But Faryl hasn’t become too swept away with her celebrity status and said:
“In my home town everyone knows me and they’re over it now. But I don’t
mind when people come up to me. I can still be normal. I didn’t think I
would be doing this at 15.”

And between having fun with her friends, the star has been preparing for her
Bedford debut.

She said: “If I’m singing every weekend, I don’t want to waste my voice in the
week. I go to my singing teacher each week, as it’s obviously really good to keep training, but I have to rest it too.”
