WITH an incredible amount of fine acts lined up to be showcased at this year’s festival you’d be silly not to have a look.
It takes place on Friday and Saturday over two locations and with events ranging from comedy to dance and even to a school’s reworking of a famous Shakespeare play, Bedfringe has a lot to offer for a very modest price.
In 2008, editor of Living Locally magazine Judy Riley said: “The thing about Bedfringe is that for less than the price of a restricted view seat in a theatre in London you can see half a dozen or more shows in one day.
From old and new, to overseas and underwear, there is also a well-renowned French comedian appearing at The Place Theatre, by the name of Marcel Lucont and a Scottish, sock-puppet act by the name of The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Company.
If you’re not a big fan of live comedy, or simply want to see a bit of everything, then why not take a look at the large variety of theatre acts? There is really something for everyone.
Pupils from St Thomas More School are performing a more child-friendly reproduction of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream named A Fairy Bad Dream.
There is I, Elizabeth, a historic drama about the Queen’s struggle being a female monarch at such a young age.
Two very accomplished actors, Richard Mann and Tony Phillips, create a spooky atmosphere in The Glenn Miller Mystery, a sinister thriller with a disturbing twist.
And last but not least, Cruel Britannia, inspired by Brecht’s Fear and misery in the Third Reich, an interesting look into what the ups and downs of a dictatorship in 2011 might be.
But if all that wasn’t enough, there’s still more. With two dance acts on top of the already long list of total acts, you’ll simply be spoiled for choice.
First up is leading dance company Kinetic Vibes. With an interesting concept of mixing ballet, tap, modern, street and aerobic dance, Kinetic Vibes sound like a real one to watch.
The other dance act at Bedfringe is Hold, a group who take the idea of mortality and the inevitability of a terminus for everything, and use different stages of life to express this, a fascinating yet morbid concept, which should make for a very interesting show.
