Deus Ex: Human Revolution: One of the year's most anticipated releases doesn't dissapoint

The original Deus Ex has been billed one of the better games of the decade, the second in the series, whilst deemed by many as not as good as the first, is also regarded as being a  very good game – so Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a lot to live up to.

The game takes place in 2027, some 25 years before the original game. Biomechanical augmentations on humans are all the rage.

You play as Adam Jensen, a former SWAT commander who takes a job as a security officer for a firm called Sarif Industries, a major player in the augmentation industry.

Jensen becomes horrifically injured in an attack on the company building and is only saved by having augmentations fitted to his body. When he recovers from the attack, he begins a search to discover the truth about the attack.

The game plays brilliantly mixing stealth and all out action very well. I’m not a big fan of stealth games and much prefer the all guns blazing approach, which is impossible on this game as I found ammo to be frustratingly sparse, but the action is great if not for slightly dodgy enemy AI.

Graphics wise it is solid enough, without setting the world alight. One point of praise I have is for the rather superb destructible environments, where bits of cover literally fly over your head.

One problem I had was just how quickly I was felled when involved in a firefight, compared to how long it took to kill an enemy. It sometimes took me three shotgun shells to down someone, but only took them one.

As you level up, you get the option to add more and more augmentations, a nice feature which enables you to do more within the game, be it carry additional equipment or leap metres into the air.

Deus Ex is one of the better games I have played this year, despite the fact that it’s not my type of shooter. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the previous titles, as it certainly will not disappoint.
