Free drama groups open to teens

Young people are being invited to take up drama sessions to help express themselves.

Theatre company Wooden Hill is offering free groups open to those aged 13-19 across Central Bedfordshire.

The project, called Central Stage, will be exploring areas such as stage combat and puppetry, focusing on learning new skills instead of putting pressure on young people to deliver a performance at the end.

The company has been funded by the Central Bedfordshire Integrated Youth Service to provide the sessions. Local professional actors will be invited along to deliver the workshops and the youngsters will have the opportunity to speak to them about their experiences.

People can choose to attend just one session but they are welcome to attend all of them.

If they want to they can complete 15 hours of drama sessions and gain an arts award bronze award, which is a relatively new accreditation which recognises achievement in all art forms.

The Sunday group takes place on February 28, March 7 and 14 between 10-4pm at The Place Theatre in Bradgate Road, Bedford.

The Monday evening group starts tomorrow and runs every Monday until and including March 15 (excluding February 15) between 6-9pm. This group takes place at Arlesey youth club.
