The chic French Horn restaurant shut its doors at the weekend 'until further notice'.
Run by celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, the stylish Steppingley diner, which only opened nine months ago, is believed to be looking at a 'new concept'.
Would-be visitors looking to make a booking by phone are met with a recorded message confirming the closure.
The restaurant's website, however, promises some 'exciting news in the new few days'.
The sister of the Touch of Novelli restaurant, the White Horse at Harpenden, is open as normal. Manager Alison Peace said: "The French Horn is still in our hands. We are changing the concept and aim to re-open in mid-February."
High-profile Jean-Christophe Novelli is from Arras, in Northern France, and became head private chef to Elie de Rothschild in Paris in his teens. He came to Britain in 1983, opened his first restaurant - Maison Novelli - in London in 1996, and over the years has accumulated four Michelin Stars.
He formed the Novelli Academy which was voted among the top 25 cookery schools in the world within months of opening in 2005.
In September 2007 Mr Novelli was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts from the University of Bedfordshire for his 30 years in the trade and achievements in cooking.
