The perfect post Xmas meal

I reviewed Indiya some years ago but after a meal there last week I felt that it deserved another mention.

Feeling the need for something to eat that didn’t involve a) us cooking it and b) turkey, stuffing or pastry, the present Mrs Lowe and I decided on a child free curry.

Indian food for the English market is usually good but not usually outstanding. Our meal was the exception to this rule.

I decided on one of the restaurant’s signature dishes - the Singapore-Style Indian Chicken Curry.

Not too hot, it allowed all of the sweet and sour flavours to really hit the palate with a bang. My wife decided on the vegetarian Thali, a traditional meal of several different dishes.

The last time that we had this was in Leicester when in October we went to celebrate Diwali. My wife took us to a restaurant she has known for many years that has the best Thali she has ever tasted. She said that the one in Indiya was better - an accolade indeed! We were also served an extra dish that we were told was ‘chicken and vegetables’. An understatement for one of the best ‘curries’ I have ever had, again full of depth and flavour.

All in all the perfect post Christmas meal and with poppadums, breads and drinks at less than £40 for two it didn’t add to the festive debt too much either.
