A Northill woman will play a vital role in the future of healthcare across Bedfordshire.
Wendi Momen has recently been appointed as a non-executive director for Bedfordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT).
The mother of two has served on various health boards in Bedfordshire and most recently was a non-executive director with the former Bedfordshire Heartlands PCT.
Mrs Momen attended the London School of Economics where she received a degree in Economics and a doctorate in International Relations.
She is also a founder member and the current chair of the European Baha'i Business Forum and h been extensively promoting the importance of moral and ethical values in businesses at conferences around the world.
The Northill Parish Councillor was chair of the equal opportunities advisory forum to Bedfordshire County Council for seven years.
Non-executive directors are local people appointed by the Appointments Commission who play a very important role in the decision making process of the PCT's Board of Directors.
Mrs Momen said: "The way in which society looks after the health and welfare of its people is an indication of the health of the society as a whole and I believe we can be proud of the high standard of care our NHS delivers for us all.
"I am extremely pleased to be appointed to the Bedfordshire PCT board so that I can contribute to maintaining and improving the high standard of health care locally."
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process but apointees' political activity has to be made public.
Mrs Momen holds ministerial appointments as a magistrate and a magistrate member on the Review Bodies for the Office of Judicial Complaints, appointed by the Lord Chief Justice and the Lord Chancellor for which she is paid a remuneration of £300 per day.
Mrs Momen will be paid around £7000 each year for her position with the PCT which she will hold until November 2010.
