Money: United will be as tough as Barrow

PREVIEW: LUTON V OXFORD UNITED
Luton Town manager Richard Money has played down the visit of Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United on Tuesday night, saying the visit of the Conference champions elect will be just as tough as Barrow.

Keith Keane is fouled during the last meeting between the clubsThe Hatters got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 1-0 win over the Cumbrian club, while Chris Wilder’s men capitalised on a Stevenage Borough defeat to once again take the top spot – a league position they have held for most of the season.

Town have a score to settled after getting soundly beaten 2-0 at the Kazam Stadium in September but despite the two being the biggest clubs in the Blue Square Premier, the Town boss views it as just another game.

"We're looking for three points," he said. "We won't get anything more for beating Oxford than we did for beating Barrow or we will if we beat Eastbourne.

"If anyone thinks tomorrow's game will be more difficult than Barrow away then they are sadly mistaken. That's the way we feel.

"It's a home game and we've been patchy on our own turf and we need to put it right.

"Whether it's Oxford at home or Forest Green at home - they are all big games."

Luton begin a busy schedule which sees them play two games a week until the first weekend in February, but the Luton boss is not looking further than the next match.

He said: "It's an old cliché but a perfectly true one - we're taking every game as it comes.

"We've got to concentrate on own stability and keep that intact while making sure we're still in contention. It's all we can do.

"The most important thing is that we're in that top five by the final game of the season.

"We have had opportunities to push ourselves back into that position recently and not taken it and we have another chance tomorrow. It's about time we grabbed it."

Oxford have been pegged back in recent months by Stevenage Borough and York City but Money insisted that the U’s are still a top class side at this level.

"They've been at the fore-front of the league from the start of the season and have been able to maintain it," he said.

"The fact York and Stevenage have caught them up is testament to what those teams have done.

"Oxford's record is still pretty good. They're a good team and we have got to be at our very best to beat them."

With a near capacity crowd expected Money is hoping the Hatters faithful will play a big part, though he is keen for his team to repay the Kenilworth Road fans after they lost to struggling Ebbsfleet United last time out.

"It will be a big atmosphere tomorrow," he said. "It will be up to the players to get the fans on our side. We're well aware of that.

"You can't keep disappointing people and expect there to be no reaction. That's understandable.

"It's down to us a group to keep them with us and I'm sure if we do the job we're capable of doing then they will."

Claude Gnakpa is set for a return after recovering from a knock that forced him off during the Barrow game, while Matthew Barens-Homer should be fit after battling an illness that kept him out at the weekend.

Ed Asafu-Adjaye trained on Monday so could be available though Kevin Gallen, Shane Blackett, Lewis Emanuel and Ryan Charles are all out.
