Help Create New Valley Wood
Last winter over 200 people joined Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough, and the Marston Vale Trust team to plant a new wood in Bedford River Valley Park.
Ten thousand trees were planted to create the first part of Octagon Wood.
Now they’re at it again. On Sunday 11th March the team will be out again to welcome members of the public crate a ten hectare piece of the River Valley Park.
As part of the shared project for creating River Valley Park, the Council is providing the land and the Trust is raising the money and managing the work.
Now everyone is welcome to come along and help plant young trees. Virtually all of the million plus trees planted in the Forest over the last 20 years have been small, so only a small hole is needed.
A free bus service is available on the day and will run from the Forest Centre at Marston Moretaine to the planting site. Buses will depart every half hour between 10.30am and 2pm and will also pick up from Elstow Park and Ride every half hour between 10.45am and 2.15pm.
When you arrive you’ll be given everything you need to start planting – trees, tools, toilets and even free tea, coffee and biscuits.
Make sure you wrap up warm and wear waterproof shoes. The only other thing you need to bring is enthusiasm.

THAT old expression about spring being in the air is spot-on. The birds are belting out romantic ballads like there’s no tomorrow, the sun is flying higher in the sky and the air smells oh, so sweet. So take a deep breath and enjoy it. Now’s the time to freshen up your décor indoors and spruce up your living space outdoors.
