THE title aspirations of Bedford Ladies were dealt a severe blow after a touch of Kiwi class propelled Maidstone to a 4-3 home win over the Chester Road side.
New Zealand international Rhi Dennison put in a stunning performance for the Kent club who saw off a Bedford team who are now 11 points adrift of league leaders Holcombe.
Dennison, who helped the Junior Black Sticks to bronze at the 2010 Youth Olympics, pulled the strings throughout and was in a different league to anyone else Bedford have faced previously in the East Premier Division this season.
Maidstone had to come from behind to secure their victory though after Kate Costin gave Bedford the lead by tucking the ball through the keeper’s legs.
Rather than breed confidence, the goal worked against the team in maroon who struggled to retain possession and looked nervous on the ball.
An unstoppable drag flick from Dennison levelled the game and Bedford keeper Bex Howitt was quickly beaten again.
Andrea Mason found a leveller, but another Maidstone drag flick caught Howitt out to make it 3-2.
The yo-yo scoring continued when Yvette Van Yperen netted for Bedford to make it 3-3, but Dennison had the final word with a fine strike to seal the points.
