The Perfect Detox
The festive season is the perfect excuse to over indulge with parties, wine, mince pies and chocolate. If you’re still trying to cleanse your body of all that Christmas chocolate and litres of New Year champagne, it’s time to face it head on.
With new celebrity diets and healthy New Year’s resolutions, it can be difficult to know where to start, or what advice to take.
But fear not! Help is at hand to fend off the January blues, flush out those toxins and boost your immune system.
Here are some top detox tips to help boost your energy and rid your body of the seasonal overindulgence.
1. Suck lemons. Adding lemon to a glass of hot water will help detox your entire system and get rid of toxins that cause bad skin.
2. Drink plenty of water. Most women drink the recommended 1.5 litres of water a day but many forget to during the holidays. Drinking 8 large glasses of water daily helps flush out toxins and hydrates your skin, making it look smoother and firmer.
3. Bust cellulite with a dry skin brush. Using this before showering will boost circulation and help repair damaged skin.
4. Get sweaty. Moderate exercise will improve circulation to flush out unwanted toxins, fats and waste. Plus a little firming up never hurt anyone and you’ll feel better for it.
5. Cut down on red meats, sugary snacks, fatty foods, caffeine and alcohol. Quite obvious really and it will give your digestive system a rest.
6. Be good to your skin. Try a home face mask with natural ingredients to help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
7. Take a cold shower. That’s right ladies this isn’t just for men. Try turning your shower water cold for 60 seconds and then back to hot again. The change in temperature will contract and dilate your blood vessels which will boost circulation and cleanse your blood.
8. Prevent hangovers with this homemade cure! Blend 600ml of grapefruit juice, two teaspoons of lime juice, one teaspoon ground cumin and drink warm before and after drinking alcohol. The vitamin C helps flush out alcohol quickly, the fruit sugar helps metabolise alcohol quicker and the juice flushes out toxins. The cumin aids digestion and supports the liver.
9. Remove temptation. Fill your fridge with healthy and low fat foods like vegetables, fruits, oats, lean meats and fish.
10. Find your centre. Yoga is good for detox because it puts pressure on your liver, kidneys and stomach.
