BEDFORD TOWN are on the verge of boosting their attacking options by signing former MK Dons trainee Joel Gyasi.

The club have already lodged a seven-day approach with Kettering and hope to complete the paperwork in next few days to sign the 18-year-old wide man.

He will go straight into the squad for the game at Bashley on Saturday and should make his home debut against Barwell on Tuesday night.

"He will give impetus," manager Nick Platnaeur said. He's had a tough, tough time at Kettering and he's now got an opportunity to come into a different environment, one where we are winning games."

Platnaeur has been tracking the Northampton resident for a while after spotting him at the trials last summer for all the players who have been released by professional clubs. He trained with the Eagles in the summer and also went on trial at Notts County and Stoke before ending up at Kettering, for whom he scored against Bedford on January 2 in a 3-0 win.

His arrival offsets the loss of Mark Bell and Ashley Fuller, Bedford's creative sparks.

"He will give us a freshen up," Platnaeur said. "We've lacked a bit of creativity since we lost Fuller and Bell. He's pacey, will get at people and cause them problems."

Gyasi's brother, Michael, was signed by Chelsea from Northampton Town for an undisclosed fee in 2010.
