Balls
Balls

ONE of Mrs Ball’s friends spotted this sign in a shop window today (it wasn’t me, honest). I think a few of the men in the BoS office may know the feeling.

AT a local boozer Bedford Borough Councillor Apu Bagchi is complaining there are not any really good restaurants in the town. They are not up to the standard to which he is accustomed, which mainly means Michelin Star eateries in London. I am sure, however, that some Bedford chefs would like to take issue with Cllr Bagchi and offer to challenge his local cynicism. The only point I would make is don’t let him eat for free, as it might cloud his judgement.

ONE of our sub-editors is at a Fitness First gym this morning (I’m breaking out in a sweat just writing about it) and he wants to watch the Romania v Georgia rugby match. So, politely he asks a member of staff if they can switch the channel. She replies that a few other people have made the same request so they’ve submitted it to head office. “Head office?” he replies, “how long will that take?” “well” she says “it has taken up to 24 hours in the past”.

Mmmm, that’s a long workout!

Friday, September 30

WHILE everyone is enjoying (well most - you still get the odd moaner!) the late summer weather, it seems some forecasters are hung up on what it should be. We see a weather report on today’s Google page which says that in Bedford it should be 15c and rain.

It seems the best way to tell what the weather’s actually doing is to stick your head out of the window - but make sure you wear a hat just in case.

TALKING of weather, the shops are struggling to shift all their winter stock this week as temperatures soar. Sports Direct in Bedford has come up with a novel way of attracting the customers by selling two umbrellas for £5.

No doubt they’ll be double the price when it pours next week.

A CALL comes into the office of ‘chaos’ on the High Street, Bedford while two workers filling in potholes take a break.

We then receive this picture from a reader showing a clear road and the men enjoying a spot of late lunch in the sun making us very jealous indeed!
