Forces Fit: Session 5
When it comes to me and exercise, it’s worse than leading a horse to water. I don’t need to be persuaded to drink, especially when alcohol’s involved, but all day I’ve been weighing the two options up for my evening.
Either veg out on the sofa in front of the television or get my fitness gear on and head to Bedford Park for Forces Fit. I’m very pleased to say I chose the latter.
Tonight’s session is much more enjoyable than last week when we were slightly hampered by the snow. The grass is clear for us to work-out and there’s no stopping instructor Baz although he does let us have a few water breaks this evening.
The thing that I’ve really noticed about those who go to Forces Fit is how encouraging they are - and tonight is no exception - to others which is particularly great for people like me who need all the motivation they can get.
We’re paired up for part of the class which involves running, jumping and sit-upping to two different goals on the football pitches. This sort of exercise appeals to my competitive side although I’m a disappointed to discover that ‘Burpees’ are not for those who can burp the loudest, instead it’s a press-up/squat/jump move - great for the bottoms!
The hour ends with a multi-group exercise (go Blues!) and it’s quiz time. No, not the sort you’d get in the warmth of your local pub - that’d be much too easy - each line has a different exercise and you can only move to next one if you know the answer to the question. And for somebody like me with little knowledge of sport, the apt Olympic theme is a bit of a challenge, but then without a challenge I’d still be at home on the couch!
